How to prepare a business financing application in Canada

Start with a clear funding purpose, a realistic amount and an organized picture of your business. Complete information gives your advisor a better starting point; it does not guarantee approval.

1. Explain what the funds will do

Write a short description of the expense or project, the amount required and the date you need the funds. Separate a one-time purchase from recurring operating costs. If the request covers several needs, list the amount for each so your advisor can discuss suitable options.

For example, an equipment purchase and a gap between paying suppliers and collecting invoices are different needs. Bring the equipment quote or invoice information relevant to your request. These are planning examples, not client outcomes.

2. Gather the details for the application

The Next Fund business application asks for the following core information. Additional questions depend on the financing selected.

  • Legal business name, industry and time in business.
  • Average monthly revenue, requested amount and funding purpose.
  • Your name, email, phone number and province or territory.

3. Prepare supporting documents

Have recent business bank statements available. After the business application, Next Fund offers an optional expedited-review step to upload the last 12 months of statements or use instant banking verification. Your advisor will confirm which documents are required for the lender’s assessment.

Depending on the financing, further requests may include financial statements, identification, equipment quotes or invoice details. Keep documents readable and complete. Use the application’s document process or the instructions from your advisor rather than sending sensitive documents to an unverified contact.

4. Plan the repayment conversation

Review your normal operating expenses and existing payment obligations before discussing a new payment. Ask how the proposed schedule fits the timing of your customer receipts, including quieter periods. Monthly revenue alone does not establish affordability or an approved funding amount.

After submission, keep your application reference and respond to any follow-up document requests. Next Fund facilitates financing through lending partners; the lender decides approval, pricing and conditions. Ask for a timeline specific to your file rather than assuming a fixed funding date.
